I think it brings in a perspective of the importance of a God-centered theology in a man-centered Western culture. I believe we should pay special attention to the negative influence on the Christian community from a thoroughly humanistic and hedonistic culture. Nothing can be more helpful as a contrast, than Edward's perspective.
C.S. Lewis said that for every book one reads from one's own era, a book should be read that originates from another time period in history. That way we can hope not to be blinded by the bias of our own era.
